Hydrogen peroxide production plan of 50,000 tons per year
Hydrogen peroxide or hydrogen peroxide is known as an environmentally friendly product with a green process in the world. Despite the closure of many polluting industries in Europe and America, the hydrogen peroxide industry is considered a green industry and widely used in developed and advanced countries as part of the household hygiene basket or the basis of many industries.
Hydrogen peroxide has many health and medical applications and is used as a harmless disinfectant and antibacterial agent in cleaning wounds and ulcers and is also used as a bleaching agent in the textile industry and wood pulp production. Hydrogen peroxide compounds are known as petrochemical initiators, one of the most key chemicals. It is also widely used in detergents such as sodium percarbonate and perborate. It more or less replaces chlorine and is converted into water and oxygen after its chemical action. On the other hand, this substance is also used in military industries such as rocket fuel and reactor washing. With the construction of this hydrogen peroxide production line, the country can achieve complete self-sufficiency and almost the major need for domestic production will be met, but given the potential of West Azerbaijan Province, this product can be exported entirely to Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Russia, India, Arab countries and the European Union, and this company will be able to meet the needs of the country and the region for all grades, including industrial grade, food grade, electronic, and laboratory. Therefore, this project is of great importance from the following perspectives:
1- By implementing this project, the entry of similar foreign goods into the country will be prevented and 80 people will be directly employed and indirectly employed for shipping companies, downstream industries as their raw materials, distributors and suppliers. Therefore, launching a hydrogen peroxide production unit in conditions of inflationary stagnation is of great importance.
2- By implementing this project, natural gas will become an extremely valuable material and in a way, it will be prevented from being sold raw.
3- The production of hydrogen peroxide, which is currently sold at a price of about twenty-two thousand tomans per liter, can bring a huge profit to the region and investors. This indicates the very high profitability of the project and indicates the high economic value of the project.
4- Hydrogen peroxide is a green product and the production of this material does not have any environmental effects, which is one of the strengths of this project.
5- The duration of the project is considered one of the key points of the created projects, and reducing the duration of the project, taking into account the acquired business of the company's human resources in the implementation, commissioning and utilization of specialized forces in this field, has a significant impact on increasing the economic indicators of the projects, especially the internal rate of return of the project and the current value of the project. The duration of this project is considered to be 18 months.
Market Studies
1-3- Introduction:
In a situation where the production and supply of goods and services is considered as the basis and measure for measuring the economic development of countries, an element that ensures the sustainability of this trend is the examination of the market share of a product or company compared to its competitors. One of these goods that plays a significant role in the domestic market is hydrogen peroxide, which is an important and harmless bleach and, despite being produced domestically, 10,000-15,000 tons are supplied through direct and indirect imports, according to the needs of various consumer industries.
Hydrogen peroxide or hydrogen peroxide is generally used as a disinfectant and bleaching agent and is widely used in bleaching paper pulp and textiles. This substance has fewer environmental impacts than chlorine and is also used in the manufacture of electronic circuits in computers and electronic equipment, and is also used as fuel for small engines in satellites.
Another important application of hydrogen peroxide is the use of this substance in the detergent industry in the product sodium percarbonate and sodium perborate, which is used as a decolorizing and disinfecting agent in this industry.
Another use of it in refineries is as a strong oxidant in the Fenton method, which does not leave any other complications after the purification process, unlike chlorine compounds.
Hydrogen peroxide is used as a raw material in the production of some petrochemicals, such as propylene oxide, which is also imported like hydrogen peroxide. Hydrogen peroxide, when combined with other materials, also forms the production of polymerization initiators, which are very strategic materials for petrochemicals, and unfortunately, during the sanctions period, their importation has also faced many problems.
The industrial and health development of the country in recent years has led to an increase in the consumption of hydrogen peroxide in the country, and this increase will be very significant with the production of many downstream industries of hydrogen peroxide. A study of the import trend of this product over a ten-year period indicates an increase in its consumption in the country. The growth of the cosmetic, health, textile and detergent industries, refineries, petrochemicals and even the copper, lead and zinc industries as a substitute for imported potassium permanganate has led to an increase in the consumption of hydrogen peroxide in the country. On the other hand, Iran is located in a region where hydrogen peroxide is not produced much in this region, and the producing countries themselves are importing hydrogen peroxide, which indicates the high demand for this product among neighboring countries. Based on this point, the export dimension of this product can also be considered in the hydrogen peroxide production plan. The high consumption of the domestic market and the strategic importance of this product for export in the region justify the production of this chemical product in the company in terms of profitability and contribution to the country's economy.
- The most important applications of hydrogen peroxide:
- 0.25% to 1%: washing the ears and throat and for plant growth and cancer treatment
- 3% disinfectant in homes instead of Vitex, washing fruits and vegetables and cleaning hospital and home surfaces where there is a possibility of germs on those surfaces, especially toilets and bathrooms
- 27.5% to 35% textile industries as bleach
- 35 to 50% in papermaking industries - lead and zinc mines, production of paper towels and washing pipelines
- 27.5 to 35% washing pipelines in pharmaceutical industries
- 5 to 10% disinfectant for livestock industries and raw material for peracetic acid.
- 35 to 50% for the production of soy epoxy as a lubricant in the plastics industry
- 35 to 60% for the treatment of wastewater and the removal of TOC and other hazardous substances in treatment plants
- 50 to 60% for the production of polymerization initiators to start chemical reactions in petrochemical reactors
- 50 to 60% as a raw material in some petrochemical industries to produce products such as HPPO, sodium percarbonate, perborate, etc.
- 60 to 80% for military purposes such as rocket fuel, washing of nuclear reactor tubes, etc.
In Eritzon tablets, 36% hydrogen peroxide is attached to 64% urea, and when these tablets are placed in the mouth, they release oxygen, which both kills oral microbes and whitens teeth. Dilute hydrogen peroxide is also used for gargling.
Disinfection of instruments used in endoscopy, hemodialysis, angiography, and all devices with holes and openings is done with hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide is a strategic and valuable commodity that has many applications in various industries. Hydrogen peroxide is an environmentally friendly bleaching agent and its market is mainly driven by the pulp and paper, mining and petrochemical industries. The top five hydrogen peroxide producing countries are China, the United States, Belgium, Thailand and Canada, while Asia and the Americas are the largest consumers of this commodity.
The global industrial hydrogen peroxide market was valued at $2.38 billion in 2015 and is expected to grow by 5.53% to $4.28 billion by 2026.
Technical Section
Hydrogen peroxide is a chemical compound with the formula H2O2. In its pure form, it is a very pale blue, liquid, slightly more viscous than water. Hydrogen peroxide is the simplest peroxide (a compound with a single bond of oxygen and oxygen). It has a higher density than hydrogen and decomposes mainly into water and oxygen when decomposed in nature, which is also considered environmentally friendly.
It is used as an oxidizer, bleaching agent, and disinfectant. Concentrated hydrogen peroxide is a reactive oxygen species and is used as a propellant in rockets.
Hydrogen peroxide is unstable to foreign bodies, alkalis, and heat, and decomposes slowly in the presence of light. Due to its instability, hydrogen peroxide is typically stored with a stabilizer in a weakly acidic solution in a dark container.
Hydrogen peroxide is found in biological systems, including the human body; enzymes that utilize or decompose hydrogen peroxide are classified as peroxidases.
2-4-Production process and methods:
From a laboratory and chemical point of view, hydrogen peroxide can be produced by different methods:
- Reaction of barium peroxide or sodium peroxide with an acid
- Electrolysis of sulfuric acid solutions
- From the oxidation (Autoxidation) of the anthraquinone compound
Currently, it can be said that all commercial production of this substance is done through autoxidation and all other methods have become obsolete. In general, it can be said that this reaction takes place according to the following diagram:
3-4- Commercial production process and methods:
Currently, there are two types of technologies for producing hydrogen peroxide in the world.
1- Fixed Bed production (fixed bed and updated technology of Chinese companies)
2- Fluidized Bed towel (new and updated technology of India and Europe)
1-3-4- Comparison of the two technologies:
The Fluidized Bed production method, as a new and updated technology for producing hydrogen peroxide, has the following advantages and problems compared to the previous technology.
1- High hydrogenation efficiency
2- Higher yield
3- Higher product concentration
4- High quality of the produced product
5- High investment cost and lack of circulation in Asian countries
However, research has shown that fixed bed technology has also been upgraded in parallel and has achieved higher tonnage and better quality. The old fixed bed technology was known as the acid-alkali fixed bed system, which sometimes also brought safety risks. The fixed bed technology is known as the acidic type, which in addition to reducing the previous risks has been upgraded to produce higher tonnages and all its raw materials can be supplied in Iran or sometimes China.
Therefore, considering that the proposed capacity is 7 times the capacity required by Iran, the investment amount will be approximately 7 times that of smaller units. On the other hand, the supply of the main raw material for this amount of product production is significant, and in addition to the two aforementioned cases, the sale of this amount of production in the region is worth considering.
Therefore, considering the above cases, creating a unit with an annual production capacity of 50 thousand tons (60%) with the ability to produce food and laboratory grades using the Fixed Bed method, of course, on the condition of purchasing technical knowledge and technology that does not have the current problems of the existing system. This is the company's vision.
Second-hand hydrogen peroxide units
Given our knowledge and experience of working with companies such as Sinochem and Sinopec, we decided to choose this valuable industry for production in Iran. Given the high price of steel, it was not possible to purchase these units. However, after identifying second-hand units in China, it is possible to include this valuable product in the petrochemical industry with many applications. Therefore, the investment costs will be introduced to the audience after selecting each unit. In addition, the present team has the ability to complete the work to implement this very sensitive project.
Thank you
